Point Based Gems of Inspiration and Special Abilities

This will be a multi-function document to try to finish off the loose ends of the point buy system. It contains the conversion rules for the gems of inspiration and the costs and prerequisites for buying various special abilities.

Gem Conversion

These are the things that a character can buy with Gem Points, in addition to saving them to make magic items:

Competence Armor Class: 8 for +1, 18 for +2, 30 for +3, 44 for +4, 60 for +5, 78 for +6, 98 for +7, 120 for +8 (these are the cumulative costs. Each level individually costs 2 cps more than the cost of raising to the last level – 8, 10, 12, 14, etc.)

Spell Storing: 5 per level for Divine storing, 8 per level for Arcane Storing. Functions as a ring of spell storing. Cannot exceed Caster Level.

Other Powers: Anything that sounds reasonable that you think should be bought in your gem, let me know and I’ll come up with a point value for it.

Saving Throws: As normal, these cost 5 cps / +1 save.

Feats and Special Abilities: Can buy feats and special abilities at their normal cost and with their normal prerequisites. Note that the previous-feat/ability prerequisites must be fulfilled by Gem feats, and Gem feats do not serve as prereqs for personal feats. E.g., if Nalole buys Dodge as a character feat, he cannot buy Mobility as a Gem feat without buying Dodge again. Similarly, if he then wanted to buy Spring Attack as a character feat, he would have to buy Mobility as a character feat. This is to save my sanity for if you ever remove your gems/spend out exp into spells or items.

Special Abilities

This is, simply, a list of special abilities, whether they cost 6, 8, or 10 cps (based on their kick-assness), and prerequisites to take the special ability (which includes both previous abilities, ability scores, and skills intended to replicate why it would be common only to certain classes.) I’ve ignored unique monk special abilities, because I hate them. Specific racial abilities are also only gained by being a member of that race. If you want them, figure out what Vharachthe and Sebrand did. Some of the powers might cost more than 10 points or less than 6 points, if they are incredibly powerful or suck, respectively.
